Video Art & Illustration

Alongside filmmaking and writing, Tarannum Pasricha maintains an active visual art practice that explores identity, consumption and inner conflict through video, installation and digital illustration.

She is part of the artist collective Nonsense Collective, which has presented installations in public art spaces.

In 2022, as part of the collective, Tarannum presented her video art installation “Consummania at Utopian Dystopia in Kochi. The work examined cycles of desire and consumption through moving image and repetition, reflecting an interest in systems that quietly shape human behaviour. Viewer discretion is advised.

In 2023, the collective also created an installation titled Deep Dive for the Kala Ghoda Festival. The work created an underwater experience using sea creatures made from recycled plastic, with material support from Recircle, a plastic recycling company.

Alongside her collective practice, Tarannum has also developed independent video art works. She has created a three screen video installation titled Aqua Dilemma, which explores the parallels between water and the human psyche. Rooted in the idea that the human body is largely composed of water, the work reflects on fluidity, adaptability, resistance and movement. Through infinitely looped visuals, Aqua Dilemma becomes a meditation on self perception, change and the tension between softness and strength.

Tarannum has also illustrated two books: Different Differenter, an activity book addressing colourism and skin tone and Meri Asha, a coffee table book of poems written by her mother Dr Asha Pasricha.

In addition to these works she creates experimental short videos and digital illustrations. These often begin as hand drawn or digitally illustrated images which she then manipulates using glitch processes and visual distortion. Her ongoing experiments span portraiture, abstract forms and motion based explorations. Selected works are shared below.
